What parish registers reveal
Birth and baptism entries usually name the child, dates, parents and godparents. Some add the mother’s maiden name, house number, status or occupation. Detail depends on the place, period and denomination.
Marriage entries can connect two families through the couple, parents, ages and origins. Death records extend the timeline, though reported ages may be inaccurate.
First identify the parish
A village may belong to a neighbouring parish; a town may have several religious communities. I check denomination, church, surviving years and duplicate registers before searching.
Moves or parish boundaries can widen the search. Extra registers and changes of scope are agreed separately.
First, a clear plan. Research begins once we agree the task, budget and deliverable.
Reading, explaining and verifying
I work with Latin, Polish, historical Ukrainian, Church Slavonic and German records. Explanations are provided in Ukrainian, with uncertain readings clearly marked.
I distinguish birth from baptism and death from burial, compare neighbouring entries and family names, and look for the parents’ marriage or other children where needed.
Example: Petro Antoniuk’s entry
The Tiahliv extract names Petrus, 28 and 29 December, house 78, parents and godparents. The year 1887 comes from the wider register, not just this cropped row.
The entry reveals several relationships. Its house number records residence; it does not prove the baptism took place there.
Fees and starting information
One person and one event starts at UAH 1,200. Lower per-entry rates apply only within a combined commission of at least UAH 7,000, not as a standalone order.
Send the name, approximate year, place and known denomination. If you have a photo, include the full spread and the relevant extract.
Questions about this service
Can you search without an exact date?
Yes. A wider year range means more pages and may affect the fee.
Do you translate the record?
I explain it in Ukrainian in the agreed format. A research transcription is not a notarised translation.
